Hah, your comment made laugh a bit, and also step back to consider my word choice here. I think the distinction between 'minimal' and 'minimalistic' is an important one, at least in the crevices of my mind.
The nuance in the longer (and fake) version of the adjective is that the minimalism is an intentional aspect of the project, and not the consequence of an early stage of design, or inept implementation.
Basically, the neologism was an attempt to emphasize that the minimalism was a design decision, rather than a temporary affliction.
